Today, tomorrow, and forever, our commitment to you stays the same.
Dignity
Every life is unique, and we promise to honor and respect each journey, crafting ceremonies that reflect each individual.
Guidance
Navigating grief can be overwhelming; we stand by you, providing direction and solace every step of the way.
Legacy
Beyond a service, we're committed to helping families create lasting tributes that transcend generations.
Our story
As one of the oldest and most recognizable landmarks in the area, Schneider-Hall Funeral Home is a stately ode to Chesapeake history. Established in 1896, our funeral home and cemetery has evolved greatly over the years to accommodate the evolving needs of our community. Yet our commitment to service remains the same. Even as we modernize our services and facilities, we stay true to our belief that honoring and celebrating life is deeply sacred and personal.

Moments Remembered
1896
The funeral home began at the crossroads of Rankins Creek and State Route 243 in Getaway, where Mr. Schneider sold caskets out of his general store. The interiors for the caskets were made in a building located behind the home, which still stands today behind the former Schneider homeplace (now Dick and Sharon Lang’s property).
1927
The funeral home moved to its first location in Chesapeake, at the foot of the Robert C. Byrd Bridge. The building still stands and now houses the offices of The Village of Chesapeake.
1931
Hall Funeral Home was founded by Ernest B. Hall Sr. and his wife Leona in Proctorville, Ohio.
1937
A new home was built on Big Branch Road, following damage caused by the Flood of 1937. The original structure was 24 ft. x 24 ft., and it is now used as the front entryway and register book signing area.
1943
Following the 1942 natural gas explosion, a new home was built. A south addition was added to the funeral home. If a funeral was held in the home, the service was conducted in the addition on the left of the building. This room is currently used as a third visitation room.
1948-1960
A porch was added on the left side of the building and a back addition was built. The porch is now used as a business office after being enclosed.
1972
The most recent addition to the funeral home was completed and is used as the chapel, which can be converted into two visitation rooms.
2017
In 2017, The Hall Family purchased Schneider-Hall Funeral Home.
2020
The Hall family purchased the Rome Pet Cemetery and Crematory to help families with the loss of a pet.
